Planning a winter wedding in Telluride? Here’s something you need to know before you choose your ceremony time.
Winter light disappears FAST in our little box canyon.
In December, the sun sets around 4:00 PM—and because Telluride is surrounded by mountains, we can lose that beautiful light even earlier.
So if you're planning an evening ceremony but dreaming about photographs with the mountains, I highly recommend doing a first look.
Most of my winter couples choose to see each other before the ceremony.
Why?
Because we can knock out most of your portraits while we still have daylight.
Your first look. Portraits of the two of you in a different location than your ceremony.
Your family photographs. And those beautiful mountain photographs you came all the way to Telluride for.
Then you can head into your ceremony knowing most of your portraits are already done—and afterward, you get to actually enjoy your cocktail hour and celebrate with everyone you love.
And there’s another very practical reason:
It’s warmer. 😂
Winter wedding timelines in Telluride are different from summer timelines. The light, temperature, snow and mountain shadows all matter.
After photographing weddings here for years, one of the biggest things I help my couples with is creating a timeline that works with Telluride instead of fighting against it.
Because you can choose the perfect venue, dress and flowers…
but you can't ask the sun to stay up another hour. ❤️
Most of all, winter weddings reward preparation and planning. I'm here for it and can help you every step of the way. When you account for the season’s unique conditions, you create room for beautiful, natural moments to unfold. If you are planning a winter celebration in Telluride, Colorado, choosing a local expert can make all the difference.
