If you would’ve asked me five years ago if I’d have a 30-inch acrylic portrait of myself hanging in my bedroom, I probably would have laughed.
Like so many photographers, I’ve always been more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it.
A few years ago, a group of photographer friends and I were helping one of our own launch a campaign. I was in a $10 thrift-store dress… simply showing up for a friend.
But when I saw the images, something shifted.
For maybe the first time ever, I didn’t critique myself. I didn’t zoom in on flaws. I didn’t tear myself apart.
I saw myself in a new light. I saw a woman who had lived and endured.
I felt empowered.
That moment became the spark behind launching my “FEMME” line. It completely changed the way I see what portraiture can do for women.
So when my friend Tassie Winters of DNT Photography asked me to be one of ten photographers across the country participating in the national publication, Women of Impact, it was an immediate “HECK YES!”
We each put out a simple call for nominations in our communities on social media (IG: @real_life_photographs_co).
The response was overwhelming. Truly overwhelming.
I’m still working my way through messages, and every conversation has left me inspired. These women are leaders. Mothers. Business owners. Volunteers. Quiet forces in our community who show up again and again without asking to be seen.
And now, they will be.
This project is deeply personal to me.
I want these women to see themselves — truly see themselves — in their own artwork. To wake up every day and be reminded of the strength they carry, the lives they touch, and the impact they make simply by being who they are.
So often, the women who give the most are the least likely to pause and acknowledge their own worth.
This experience is about changing that.
Every participating woman will be professionally photographed and featured in the magazine, alongside a personal interview sharing her story.
This isn’t just about a portrait. It’s about legacy. It’s about honoring women while they are here to feel it. And for future generations to know their stories.
I am incredibly honored to tell their stories and feature them in this national publication, releasing by Mother’s Day 2026.
This isn’t just a project. It’s a passion.
Because I know firsthand what it feels like to see yourself in a new light — and I want more women to experience that.
