After more than 20 years of photographing families here in Telluride, I still get excited every time I head out for a family session. I know these mountains like home, but every family brings something completely different to them.
And that’s my favorite part.
I get to spend a little time getting to know you and your kids, and your pets if you have them. figuring out who the silly one is, who needs a little more time to warm up, who gives the best hugs, and what makes your family your family.
This Telluride family session was one of those that stayed with me.
One of the things I love most about photographing families is that no two families are the same. There’s a different rhythm, different relationships, different personalities—and that’s what I want to photograph.
For me, it’s never about creating the “perfect” family photograph.
It’s about the way your kids laugh together. The way your youngest still reaches for your hand. The way everyone fits together right now. It’s the little things that may feel completely ordinary today but will mean so much more as the years go by.
And Telluride gives us a pretty incredible place to do that.
Yes, the mountains are beautiful. But they’re never the most important part of the photograph.
Your family is.
My job is to give you enough direction that you never have to wonder what to do, while also giving your family space to relax, have fun and simply be together. That’s when we create the photographs that actually feel like you.
Because years from now, I don’t just want you to remember what everyone looked like.
I want these photographs to remind you what this season of your family felt like.
And when your session is over, those memories don’t have to live somewhere on your phone. Together, we’ll create finished artwork for your home—pieces you get to walk past every day and that, someday, your kids may have hanging in their own homes.
If you’re thinking about family photographs in Telluride, I’d love to help you preserve your family exactly as you are right now.
Because this season won’t last forever. And that’s exactly why it’s worth remembering.
